Cybersecurity Awareness Month: 7 Tips from Acmetek to avoid Cyber Threats.

It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

CISA and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA) together took up a program to encourage individuals and organizations to take responsibility for their part of cyberspace, emphasizing personal accountability and the significance of proactive Cybersecurity measures.

Acmetek has joined this Cybersecurity awareness program to help our customers become more cyber-aware. Today people depend on technology for even their small day-to-day activities. So, it has become essential to be up-to-date on Cybersecurity trends. As a result, we have developed a few tips from our experiences managing security events for our customers. Going through these tips, you can overview the best practices to be secure on the web.

  1. Research before you purchase

It is always necessary to research the site before you make an online purchase. Every user must check the website’s credibility and authenticity to ensure that you are making the smart choice. Be alert and stay away from fraudulent products and offers.

  2. Never use default passwords

The use of default accounts and passwords is prevalent and dangerous. Attackers can quickly identify and access internet-connected systems that use shared default passwords. Passwords can be found in product documentation and compiled lists available on the internet. It is imperative to change default passwords and restrict access to devices.Never use default passwords

  3. Update the software

Updating software regularly is essential with your operating systems and internet security software. Cybercriminals frequently use known exploits, or flaws, in your software to gain access to your system. Patching those exploits and flaws can make it less likely that you’ll become a cybercrime target.Update the software

  4.  Keep up to date on major security breaches through awareness

If you do business with a merchant or have an account on a website that’s been impacted by a security breach, find out what information the hackers accessed and change your password immediately.

     5. Ensure Endpoint Protection

Endpoint Protection

Endpoint protection protects networks that are remotely bridged to devices. Mobile devices, tablets and laptops that are connected to corporate networks give access paths to security threats.           These paths need protection with specific endpoint protection software.

       6. Backup your data

In the event of a disaster (often a cyber-attack), you must have your data backed up to avoid serious downtime, loss of data, and severe financial loss.             Back Up Data

      7. Secure the Wi-Fi network

Leaving your Wi-Fi networks unprotected gives hackers a potential window to infiltrate your network to hunt for openings that could provide access to private information.

#BeCyberSmart.

The cause of security breaches is mostly malware, hacking, and phishing, which are mostly the results of human errors. Hence cybersecurity awareness and education are critically essential.

This month especially, we ask that you don’t treat cybersecurity as a taboo topic: talk to others about how to “Be Cyber Smart” and ensure to share the tips throughout your network. By doing so, we can all make huge strides in protecting our devices. Use the Cybersecurity Awareness Month hashtag #BeCyberSmart, to help promote cybersecurity awareness.
