CISA and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA) together took up a program to encourage individuals and organizations to take responsibility for their part of cyberspace, emphasizing personal accountability and the significance of proactive Cybersecurity measures.

The use of default accounts and passwords is prevalent and dangerous. Attackers can quickly identify and access internet-connected systems that use shared default passwords. Passwords can be found in product documentation and compiled lists available on the internet. It is imperative to change default passwords and restrict access to devices.

Updating software regularly is essential with your operating systems and internet security software. Cybercriminals frequently use known exploits, or flaws, in your software to gain access to your system. Patching those exploits and flaws can make it less likely that you’ll become a cybercrime target.

If you do business with a merchant or have an account on a website that’s been impacted by a security breach, find out what information the hackers accessed and change your password immediately.
